Phenomena

End of a Phenomenal Run

HERO CHANNEL FACTOID!

Before she landed her starring role as Phenomena, Angelica Mathers pursued her acting career trying to keep her powers secret.  Her cover was blown during a fight scene with a certain well-known action film star who’s been known to take advantage of coworkers. When his hand strayed, an inadvertent response from Angelica put him in hospital for three weeks. She lost the job, but word of her strength reached the executives who were casting a TV show about a superheroine.

Seven seasons' worth of wild and wacky villains couldn't even wipe the smile off her face, so who would have figured that the mighty Phenomena would finally meet her match at the hands of randy reality show contestants?

Network spokespersons make it official that after seven seasons, the hour-long drama-comedy "Phenomena" has been cancelled.   The only TV show to feature an actress with genuine super powers,  "Phenomena" was a ratings smash initially, only to lose steam during the fifth season when its star cut her flowing locks.

The hair grew back quickly, but the ratings never recovered, especially when pitted against the reality blockbuster "Date on Deserted Island".  Viewers were entranced by the shenanigans of couples thrust together on a deserted island for what was essentially a forty eight hour blind date without the constraints of civilization.

Angelica Mathers became a media darling when she first donned the form-fitting purple and gold costume. The stunning beauty was able to do all her own stunts by virtue of her amazing strength and invulnerability. Though she never revealed the origin of those powers, Mathers was otherwise very open with the media.

Mathers has always been frank about her decision to use her amazing powers solely in pursuit of an entertainment career.

"I could never go and hit someone, so fighting crime is out of the picture,' she once told an interviewer.  "I don't have that kind of personality.  Got your cat up a tree?  Need something heavy to be lifted?  I'm your gal.  If this TV gig ends, maybe I'll get a job moving furniture."

Given the income earned from the show and related merchandising, odds are good Angelica Mathers won't use her magnificent muscles to earn a blue collar wage.  Ironically, rumors have her up for the lead in a proposed movie based on the superheroic exploits of Golden Valley's  Sinnamon.
