(Welcome to Part Three of Angelo Furlan’s interview with Bill Messner-Loebs)
ANGELO: What projects can your fans look forward to buying RIGHT NOW or in the near future?
BILL: As far as I know my first GREEN ARROW issue is off the stands, but still in the "recent" bin at your favorite comic book store. That's the one that co-stars Solomon Grundy as a rather confused "hero". I'm in the process of writing a second one, entitled "Like Chimneysweepers". It revolves around a search for a serum that gives eternal youth, but has some very nasty side-effects.
A benefit book for Nadine and me has just been published: HEROES AND VILLAINS from Two Morrows publishing. It's a big thick book of drawings and remembrances from nearly everyone who knows me in the industry. The content is focused on books I've written or drawn, like FLASH, JONNY QUEST, JOURNEY or WONDER WOMAN. I get a little catch in my throat every time I see it.
THE THREE TENORS (out of tune), is also available from Aardwulf This is a collection of three short stories from me, three from Dave Cockrum and three from Clifford Meth. Pretty darn cool. I've been trying to write more prose lately, and I have a couple of illustrated books in process. One is an adult western, the other is a Young Adult Historical that stars a 12 year old Joshua MacAlistaire lost in the wilderness in western Pennsylvania during the Wyoming Valley Massacre of 1778. ANGELO: Those illustrated books sound interesting. I’ll want an update the next time we do the interview thing. Anything else? I just got a press release from About Comics concerning you, and I'm dying to hear more about this particular book. BILL: My first really professional work in Comics was a series of 8 pagers that appeared in the back of CEREBUS in 1980 or so, called WELCOME TO HEAVEN, DR. FRANKLIN. It detailed the events just after Benjamin Franklin's death, wherein he arrives in Heaven, discovers Marcus Aurelius is God, and that the pressure of deity has driven him insane. It was the favorable response to those stories that led to my being asked to do JOURNEY. Well, About Comics is going to be collecting those stories into one comic, which will be coming out around February of '06. I couldn't be happier.
ANGELO: I'm happy for you, too! For more information on this project, people can check out the About Comics site here.
Thanks for your time, Bill! We'll have another "Wild Bill" update when SINNAMON hits the stands.
